Launching a restaurant business

von Michael Sypien

Launching their own restaurant is the wish of many people working in the restaurant business. During our English class we are getting the chance of creating our own concept of a grand opening of a restaurant. I must admit that it was much more exhausting than I thought it would be. We had to start by forming groups so we could begin to brainstorm. There were many things we had to consider, many details as part of the concept. It is not only about inventing or combining some starters, main dishes, desserts and drinks but also about what name do you give your business, when does it open, what logo do you choose and what prices you can ask for. In addition to that you have to make sure that all the things you put together will fit together.

When your team has finished their brainstorming, you summarize all the ideas and start making your final poster for the grand opening. In the poster you combine all the ideas and ensure that everyone has a say. The most special part of this group work is that we have a huge number of different nationalities represented in this class. Three new classmates from Vietnam joined us today. Working like this is much fun and a nice chance to learn more about different cultures and behaviours. In total I have to say that it was a great experience, and it really helped the whole class being a team and getting to know each other better. And for everybody that has the wish to open his or her own restaurant I only can recommend starting with a practice like this.
